Admissions

Conwy County Borough Council, the Local Authority (LA), decides the criteria and procedure for admissions to Ysgol St George. The LA will comply with statutory requirements and will give full recognition to the expression of parental preference in the context of its duty to ensure the provision of efficient education and the efficient use of education resources. The LA will not refuse applicants for a particular school unless that school has reached its “Standard Number” for admissions, that being the number a school can admit in any one year. The LA will admit pupils up to the “Standard Number” of each school, or up to any higher limit which may have been agreed between the County Borough and a particular governing body. The LA will only admit pupils in excess of the “Standard Number” where it is deemed not to be prejudicial to the provision of efficient education or the efficient use of resources. The “Standard Number” of the school is 10 per year group. Early Education Funding for 3 Year Olds Places are available in our Meithrin group as part of the Early Education Funding for 3 Year Olds programme. If your child will be 3 by January 1st you can apply for a place to start in January 2025. If your child is 3 by April 1st you can apply for a place to start after the Easter holidays in 2025. Applications should be made through Conwy’s website Early Education Funding for 3 Year Olds - Conwy County Borough Council Nursery Education (Meithrin) The LA will admit a child to a maintained nursery school in the September following their 3rd birthday. Nursery schooling is provided on the basis of 5 x 2.25 hour sessions per week. Though every effort will be made to meet parental preference, nursery education is not statutory and parents have no right of appeal if they are unsuccessful in gaining a nursery place. Applications should be made through Conwy’s website. Apply for Nursery, Reception and Junior (Yr 3) places for September 2025-2026 - Conwy County Borough Council Applications open for Nursery in the year before they turn 3 (September 2024) and the closing date is the following February (2025). Reception Class The Authority will admit a child to a maintained school in the September following their 4th birthday. Parents will need to apply for a Reception place even if their child is already part of our Meithrin group. Applications should be made through Conwy’s website. Apply for Nursery, Reception and Junior (Yr 3) places for September 2025-2026 - Conwy County Borough Council The deadline for applications is February 2025. Transfer Outside Normal Admission Times The LA is prepared to consider requests for transfers between schools when it is deemed to be in the best interest of the child. More detailed information regarding the LA’s Admission Policy is given in our Admissions Policy. Parents who are considering sending their child to Ysgol St George, are invited to arrange a visit to school prior to admission to meet the Headteacher, view the school and discuss arrangements, requirements and expectations. Parents of Meithrin age children, have an opportunity in the summer term prior to admission, to meet with teaching staff through home visits and attend an informal session at school with their parents.
